What You Won't Hear From ResLife

You’ve heard all about the guest check-in policy, the 24-hour front desk personal, the quiet hours, and items not allowed in the dorm (RIP seasonal scented candles). You’re prepared for life on campus - but are you really? What about the things ResLife left out?
LUC Cribs asked current Loyola students “What is something Residence Life didn’t tell you?” and got some interesting responses…

Communal bathrooms too dirty to get clean in?
Find out when your floor’s bathroom gets cleaned, and set your schedule around it. Or opt for a freshman dorm in Regis Hall, where you have a private bathroom.

Concerned the person who showered before you is now bald?Talk to your RA. They can remind everyone to clean up after themselves, they’re there to help. If you go the communal bathroom route, LUC Cribs suggests packing a pair of flip-flops or shower shoes.

40 degrees outside, but feels like summer in Florida?
Loyola can’t run A/C and heating at the same time, so they shut off the A/C mid-October. The dorms tend to run warm all semester long. LUC Cribs suggests getting a fan to help keep you cool.

Test in the AM but neighbors partying like it’s 1999?
Quiet hours mean noise shouldn’t be heard from three doors down and for more than thirty seconds. You can text or call the RA on duty to report excessive noise. You can also take an 8-Ride (a free on-campus taxi service Loyola offers) to the IC, which is open 24 hours. Or invest in a pair of noise-cancelling headphones.

RA's kill your party buzz?
Make sure you’re aware of the Community Standard Guidelines. Think you’ve received an unfair citation? Reach out to the Office for Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution (OSCCR). They can help you understand the violation, and let you know the issues with it.

That summer feeling ruined with a hefty fine from Reslife?
Residence life is EXTREMELY picky about the condition of dorms at the end of the year. You will get charged for any marks, dents, or mess left in your room. (And it’s no secret that Loyola doesn’t do anything cheap.) To avoid fines at the end of the year, clean your dorm and be extra careful pulling off those Command hooks.

As a current forming student, these are definitely things I wish I knew going in! I loved your solutions to these problems!
Great idea. Excellent info to share with students.
Sounds like a nice place! Thanks for the heads up
Pieces of hair on walls would gross me out too!
